Documentary/ Reportage Photography
There is something quite remarkable about being
in a particular place as a documentary/ reportage
photographer; being present to take pictures in an
extraordinary moment that may never again be repeated.
On occasion, I shoot assertively and
automatically (though usually the environment and
situation that I am working in will also influence
how I pre-visualise the pictures). On other occasions,
I am more contemplative about whether or not to intrude
into something that could be viewed as disturbing
or private; so even though it may make a potentially
award-winning picture, I may refrain from capturing
it.
As a Documentary-style Photographer,
you shoot pictures because you want to tell a story
and make a positive and entertaining contribution
to society. There is a desire to raise an awareness
about our daily lives, how we view ourselves and others,
and to portray, in a unique manner, the culture that
we live in. My subjects are not always serious. Photography
is also about capturing life’s amusing experiences.
I hope you enjoy viewing the pictures
on display in this photo gallery. Some pictures may
be thought provoking, some will make you smile or
feel sad. Overall, they aim to capture some aspect
of human social life. Enjoy the moment!

Life/Culture
Russia and Eastern Europe are my favourite places
to visit. I have
travelled
throughout the Ukraine and Russia, from St. Petersburg,
to
Moscow
and have experienced the natural raw village life,
even a Russian Banya!
(A natural home made sauna).
